Welcome to Xinyue's showcase page! To express her design interest and future explorations, Xinyue would like to highlight her major study project and other favourite designs created during her UX design studies.
Major project
Exploring the implications of mixed reality technology for local history museum visiting experience and visitor’s satisfaction
Reasearch Project Brief
The major UX research project aims to demonstrate complete academic research, design and assessment process, discussing the relationship between visiting satisfaction and advanced technology in the Charnwood Museum, a representative local visiting spot in Loughborough.
The findings have shown that applying advanced technologies can significantly enhance the visitor experience at a small local museum. Visitors with different attributes also had different impacts on the dimensions in the experiment scale This study lays the groundwork for future research on cultural communication topics and explores potentially experience valuables in future research of AR technology.
Prototype Development
In the controlled experiment, to imitate an ideal MR experience, a developed AR prototype with an overview navigation service was provided to the first-time visitors as the participants in the treatment group.
Scale and Results
The research student then utilised paper surveys with improved questions as the scale to determine how satisfied each participant was. The quantitative methods are considered in experiments that control variables for comparison.
Project 2 - Smart Retail Environment Design
Would you like just to smell the perfume or immerse yourself in the scent world? The design student group working with Xinyue applied advanced technologies, MR and VR, to provide multi-sensory elements, especially in visualisation, to expand the perfume scent expressiveness. This could help new customers make better purchase choices in perfume stores, Penhaligon's was chosen as the context theme. Sufficient iterations were conducted at each stage of ideation, prototype and evaluation.
A video is provided at the end to show how the design outcome is presented.
Project 3 - A Humorous Inspiration to Promote Energy Saving
When people care about their hair, the earth also cares about its 'hair', the natural environment. The mobile app was developed to help people manage daily consumed energy and it applied the smart meter data provided by the GenGame Company. The more energy saved daily, the better the virtual portrait looks. Let's make progress with your Lee!
Project 4.1 - Say Hi for Socially Sensitive
Just quietly move your finger hidden up your sleeve to give off a social signal - the LED shaped in 'Hi' on your arm lights up. This miniature wearable device will not attract too much attention and cause anxiety, and it can be attached to your clothing without interfering with daily movements. Smile at each other and relieve the social anxiety.
Project 4.2 - Hug Yourself and Warm Inside
There is nothing warmer than a hug. More than embracing others, socially sensitive people need to embrace and heal themselves. If anxiety flares up in social situations for this user group, they can hold the position shown in the picture to stimulate the warmth system. The conductive fabric is attached to the elbow area and measured inside the clothes. When hugging yourself and the conductive fabric contacting, the circuit is switched on and the heating pad in the stomach starts to work, slowly warming up to give you time to calm down silently.
