This branding project centres around mental health and wellbeing in the sportswear industry with considerations towards sustainability.
Lucy is a Loughborough alumni having studied Fine Art, specialising in studio photography, portraiture and woodblock printings . Hoping to extend her photography skills into digital and commercial contexts, Lucy used the MA to learn key concepts of Graphic Design and experiment with an umbrella of visual practices. Building on her strength of observational drawing, Lucy translated her practices into screen-printing and animation. These experimental passions culminated in Lucy's dissertation titled: 'Emotion as a Storytelling Device in Interstellar and Grave of the Fireflies', launching her career pursuits in a new direction. As a result, she is hoping to further specialise in animation either within academia or industry, and is currently balancing her newfound passion teaching photography in university.
By wearing THRIVE clothing, customers signal they are part of a group committed to supportive and inclusive behaviours in the most intimidating of sporting environments such as gyms.
T-shirts were screen-printed before being photographed within studio and location settings. By using a sans serif, handwritten font designed by Lucy, each label acts as a personal note to self hidden away from others' eyes.
The supportive and inclusive behaviours the brand promotes is communicated through its social media accounts, establishing the relationship between the brand, its clothing and its customers.
As a part of the project, Lucy researched into the positive effects of exercise on cancer patients to demonstrate the potential, real world value of a brand like THRIVE.
