Disw—Road safety design based on vehicle sound
Keeping You Safe on the Road
Disw is an electric vehicle warning sound system which, unlike other warning sound products on the market, enables all vehicles to provide different warning sounds when they are within 50 metres of each other, providing safety for vulnerable road users.
Two Fixing Bases
Curved base for easy access to the main product and two types of base to suit a wide range of vehicles.
Mounting Position
For e-bikes and e-scooters the product will be mounted on the handlebars and the position of the fixing strip can be adjusted according to the size of the handlebars and the space available for mounting.
For electric vehicles the product will be mounted in the front boot and fixed to the side using suction cups.
Reminders of Sound
When vulnerable road users are using the road, proximity and distance warning sounds can help them determine the direction and number of vehicles behind or in front of them, in this way these silent electric vehicles will have a large presence which can increase road safety for vulnerable road users.
Warning Sound System
In urban areas, the warning sound will increase linearly at a fixed frequency of 25Hz within 50m of the electric vehicle, in such a way that different electric vehicles will give different warning sounds within the range that can be heard by vulnerable road users, and beyond 50m the warning sound will stabilise at around 300Hz, thus improving road safety for vulnerable road users.
Product Internal Structure
With an internal structure that holds the integrated circuit board and aids sound transmission, the body of the product is divided into three parts, a simple combination that helps to reduce the time taken by the user to install the product.
Product Design Sketches
A number of shapes were considered depending on the type of loudspeaker chosen and, after testing, it was decided to design the body and base of the product to suit different electric vehicles.
Product Prototype
Using UWB technology as a bridge for communication between vehicles, a medium fidelity prototype was created by 3D printing. During the testing phase, the majority of participants were able to identify the correct amount and direction of sound and could prove the product to be effective to some extent.

Design Internship
6.7.2019 - 23.8.2019, Shaoxing Lianzhan Needlework Co Ltd, China
Position: Design Assistant
The management and my colleagues at the internship gave me many opportunities to participate in its design, where I learned about the early planning stages and production equipment, among other things. I was involved in a textile type design project for the company, by designing different models and eventually building a multifunctional printing and dyeing machine that provided 16% of the company's turnover
