Recognising public announcements and campaigns surrounding covid did little to discourage young adults to socially isolate and respect lockdowns, Yichen reimagined a series of informative covid posters that could speak to a younger audience more effectively.

The Spread
Virus Invasion
The Spread is a project that examines how bacteria and viruses have been represented in different contexts, questioning how they have influenced the general public's understanding of them. As one of the most recent and well-known viruses, the Coronavirus was used as a case study to explore different creative visualisations. By restyling medical depictions of the virus, The Spread memorializes the Covid pandemic placing artifice over information.
Microscope
The value of Electron Microscopy within medical visualisations cannot be understated. Since microorganisms are smaller than wavelengths of visible light they cannot be seen using conventional microscopes. By using electrons whose wavelengths are smaller than visible light's, microorganisms can be observed using either Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) & Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) to examine microorganisms structures or internal contents respectively.
Mask Virus Story
Although face masks do not directly visualise viruses and bacteria at a cellular level, they offer a representation founded in invisibility. The poster itself, however, focuses on the importance of face masks in the pandemic, using images to reinforce them as a fashion accessory, increasing their desirability.
The Vaccine
Using stock imagery, a variety of Photoshop stylisation effects were applied to create textured images that contrasted with a chrome aesthetic typically associated with sterilazation and heat maps indicative of illness. The text and images were composited using Adobe Illustrator with typefaces sourced from Adobe Font.
