BOBCAT - Motorised Nature Photography Trolley
BOBCAT: Equipment Carrier for Nature Photographers
Nature photographers are quite hard working professionals, carrying heavy equipment for long hours in the field is their main job. This product is designed for nature photographers. It is intended to help reduce their workload and protect the photographic equipment for safe transport.
BOBCAT: Product Description
BOBCAT is designed based on the working habits and usage scenarios of nature photographers. It can be divided into four main parts, respectively the control handle, the case, the balancing system and the track module. The BOBCAT is mainly made of plastic, aluminium and carbon fibre, thus allowing for light weight and high strength.
Scenario
The track system helps the equipment to travel freely over rough terrain. The self-balancing system guarantees stable transport of photographic equipment. The excellent ergonomic design allows for long term use without fatigue.
Control Handle - Ergonomic Design
In order to enhance the user experience, the control handle has undergone extensive ergonomic testing. The designer has taken into account factors such as the height of the handle, the grip angle, the layout of the buttons, the forces applied and the materials used.
Self-balancing & Track System
The BOBCAT is powered by two geared motors and the compact design of the tracks allows for flexible movement. The Self-balancing system can be seen as a two-axis stabiliser that keeps the case upright without tipping when climbing hills and over obstacles.
Foldable Design
The BOBCAT has a foldable design for easy storage and space saving. The interior of the case is designed to fit the photographer's usual equipment, allowing for the storage of a 600mm fixed focal length lens, the usual zoom lenses, spare batteries and other equipment at the same time.
Exploded Views
All parts of the BOBCAT follow a manufacturable design, using standard components, materials that meet the requirements of use and suitable manufacturing processes.
Prototyping & Testing
Scaled-down prototypes were made to test. The designer built a model of the track module and self-balancing system to test the BOBCAT's passing performance and stability. Cardboard prototypes were created to identify the actual dimensions of the device.
